MATERIALS:
>Scraps of knitting worsted in the following colors: off-white, blue, red, black, yellow, white and gray
>Stuffing
>Thin wooden dowel, about 10"long
>Size F crochet hook
HEAD
With off-white, ch 2.
RND 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
RND 2: 2 sc in each sc. (12 sc).
RND 3: * 2 sc, sc, repeat from * around. (18 sc).
RNDS 4 & 5: Work even.
RND 6: Sc in first 2 sc, (hdc, dc, hdc) in next sc, sc in the last 15 sc.
RND 7: Sc in first 2 sc, 2 hdc in next st, 2 dc in next st, 2 hdc next st, sc in each remaining sc.
RND 8: Sc in first 2 sc, sk next 6 sts, sc in remaining sc.
RND 9: Dec every 3rd sc, around. (12 sc).
RND 10: Dec every other sc around. (6 sc).
Stuff head and sew bottom of nose together. Change to blue yarn.
RNDS 11 & 12: Repeat rnds 2 and 3 of head. (18 sc).
RNDS 13 - 20: Work even. Start stuffing body.
RNDS 21 & 22: Repeat rnds 9 and 10 of head, stuffing as you dec.
End off. Sew opening closed.
LEGS
(Make 2)
With black yarn, ch 2.
RND 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join.
RND 2: 2 sc in each sc around.
RND 3: Sc in first sc, 3 sc in next sc (front of shoe), sc in each remaining sc around.
RND 4: Sc in 1st sc, draw up a loop through each of next 3 sc, yo, draw through all Ips on hook,
sc in each remaining sc.
RND 5: Sc, sk 1st (repeat once), sc in each remaining sc, change to off-white at end of rnd. (10 sc).
RNDS 6 - 18: Work even. Stuff lightly. End off. With a running st, pull sts tog slightly at top of leg. Sew legs to bottom of body.
ARMS
(Make 2)
With off-white, ch 2.
RND 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join.
RND 2: Work even, change to blue at end of rnd.
RNDS 3 -11: Work even. End off.
Sew to body. Do not stuff.
SKIRT
With blue, ch 18, join with sl st to form a ring.
RND 1: Ch 3, dc in same sp as joining, 2 dc in each dc around. (36 dc).
RND 2: Inc every 3rd dc around.
RNDS 3 - 8: Work even in dc. End off. Slip skirt onto body and sew around waist.
APRON
With white yarn, ch 10.
ROW 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 3, turn.
ROW 2: Dc across, increasing in 1st and last st, ch 3, turn. (11 dc).
ROWS 3 & 4: Work even in dc, ch 3,turn.
ROW 5: Repeat row 2, end off.
TIES
Ch 40, insert hook in 1st ch on top right side of apron, sc across top of apron, ch 40. End off. Tie
apron around waist.
HAIR
Wrap gray yarn around a 2 1/2 inch wide cardboard strip, about 80 times. Cut, so pieces are 5" long.
Loop hair all over head, 2 pieces at a time by inserting hook in sc on head and pulling the center of
2 gray strands through, with the hook still in the loop, gather the 4 ends of yarn and pull through Ip on hook. Pull tightly.
SCARF
With red, ch 4.
ROW 1: 3 dc in 4th ch, ch 3, turn.
ROW 2: 2 dc in each dc, ch 3, turn.
ROW 3: Repeat row 2.
ROW 4: Inc in every 2nd dc, ch 3, turn.
ROW 5: Work even, ch 3, turn.
ROW 6: Inc in every 4th dc. End off.
Put scarf on head and sew ends tog to back of neck, under hair.
BROOM
Cut about 30 - 2 1/2 inch pieces of yellow yarn. Wrap a strand of red around the yellow yarn, tightly,
about 1/2 inch from end. Put some glue on end of dowel and stick dowel into center of yellow bundle,
about 1 inch. Let dry; attach to witch.
Sew hands to top of dowel.
Put dowel between legs a little above ankle and sew in place with off-white yarn.
Attach a long, black strand to top of head, for hanging.
