Grandmother Wren's Halloween Pages

Simple Children's Costume Ideas from 1961

it was a simpler time...
HALLOWEEN is a good time for you and your friends to get together for a dress-up party. You can serve
orangeade, popcorn, and rosy red apples for refreshments.

Make your Halloween invitations on black paper cut to fit standard envelopes. Cut pumpkin faces, with small tabs at top, out of orange paper. These tabs fit over top edge of card and are pasted on back side. Print invitation message under each pumpkin face with white ink.

These gay party costumes are easy to make. For each you will need a pair of sleeper-type pajamas.
To complete baby bear:
Copy the ear pattern at the bottom of the page, and cut two out of brown or gray felt.
Fasten to top of snowsuit cap. Make a
pattern for eyes, and cut two out of
black cardboard. Punch holes on each
side of eye piece and slip string
through holes. Tie at back of head.

To complete bunny:
Make a pattern for ears, and cut
two out of white or pink paper.
Fold ears slightly along dotted line.
Attach to top of snowsuit cap. Tack
a piece of absorbent cotton at back
of pajamas for cottontail.
To complete skeleton:
Cut out the bone sections from white
paper or felt. Outline each bone with India
ink. Tack on front of pajamas with
white thread. Add paper finger bones
to an old pair of plain mittens. Copy
patterns for eyes and nose, and cut
out of black paper. Fasten with adhesive
tape.

To complete daring young acrobat:
Copy green patterns on page at bottom of page. Cut two of each from yellow paper.
Decorate with India ink and tack at
shoulders. Tack leg trimmings at side
of legs. Use a scarf as a sash. Cut
mustache out of black paper.
